The Division of Thoracic Surgery at Beijing Shijitan Hospital has been established for more than 50 years. Now it has become a key clinical division of Department of Oncology and Clinical Cancer Center at Capital Medical School in Beijing. We provide professional, standardized, and individualized treatment for diseases that require chest surgery including thymoma, lung cancer, esophageal cancer, cardia cancer and so on. Dr. Ge Feng, Director of Division, is an established and famous thoracic surgeon in China. Out-patient service is open from Monday to Friday.

Clinical Strength of the Division
1. Lung
Lung cancer, Metastatic lung neoplasms, Lung benign tumor (hamartoma, inflammatory pseudotumors, adenoma of mucous glands etc.), Lung tuberculosis, Lung abscess, Bronchus-pleura fistula, Pulmonary bullae, Pulmonary cyst, Pulmonary echinococcosis, Pumonary arteriovenous fistula, Pulmonary mycosis.
2. Esophagus
Carcinoma of esophagus, Carcinoma of cardia, Esophagus diverticulum, Esophagus cyst, Achalasia of cardia, Esophagus leiomyoma, Esophagus perforation, Gastroesophageal reflux, Congenital diaphragmatic hernia, etc.
3. Mediastinum
Thymoma, Thymic hyperplasia, Mediastinal neurogenic tumors, Mediastinal lymphoma, Mediastinal cyst, etc.
4. Pleura
Empyema, Chylothorax, Pleura effusion (Benign and malignant: pleura mesothelioma), etc.
5. Trachea
Tracheal tumor, Tracheal stenosis, Tracheal trauma, etc.
6. Trauma of chest
Rib fracture, Sternum fracture, Open pneumothorax, Tension pneumothorax, Hemothorax, Traumatic hernia of diaphragm, etc.
7. Chest wall and sternum
Congenital deformities of chest wall and sternum (funnel chest, pigeon chest), Thoracic outlet syndromes, Tumor of chest wall, Tuberculersis of chest wall, etc.

Features of the Division
1. Thoracic minimally invasive techniques
Excepting vedio-assisted lobectomy and limited pulmonary resection, surgery techniques with VATS for enucleation of leiomyoma of esophagus, diverticulectomy of esophagus, cardiomyotomy, repairment for esophageal hiatal hernia have been become the routine methods at our Division. Application of combined vedio laparoscopy and thoracoscopy for resection of esophageal cancer and esophagogastrostomy in neck is the latest addition to one of our Division’s feature, which place the lead at domestic institutions. No other thoracic surgery center carries out such operation in Beijing so far.
2. Thoracic complicated and advanced techniques
new operative techniques for the management of difficult technical problems, such as lung volume reduction, locally advanced lung and esophageal carcinomas, resection and reconstruction of the pulmonary artery, reconstruction after carina removal and sleevelet resection of bronches, lung autograft and esophagointestinostomy, etc, have been undergone successfully in our Division and reaching the top level in China because of abundance of acknowledge and experience in the past 50 years in general thoracic surgery.
3. Undertaking projects
Clinical study of early diagnosis and screen for non-small cell lung cancer; Clinical study of metastatic rules of mediastinal lymph node and effective analysis of systematical resection for mediastinal in non-small cell lung cancer; Experimental and clinic study of artificial brochea and esophegus
4. Personalized treatment
Multimodality and personalized therapy in the management of many thoracic malignancies have been offered by combined acknowledge and expertise from thoracic surgery, physician, radiology and pathology according to each patient's physical condition.
